CBTI-BKVT withdraws from Eulita

The Board of the Belgian Chamber of Translators and Interpreters has decided not to renew its Eulita membership. Here is the letter sent to Mrs Liese Katschinka, President of Eulita.

For the attention of Mrs Liese Katschinka, President of Eulita

Dear Madam,

Please be advised that by decision of 14th last June, the Board of the Belgian Chamber of Translators and Interpreters has decided not to renew its Eulita membership, in amongst other things for cost/benefit reasons.

But above all, by reason of the fact that Eulita sets out objectives in its bylaws that establish Eulita as a rival organisation in competition with the FIT, the FIT Europe and the member associations.

To efficiently uphold the interests of all sworn European translators and interpreters, Eulita should have been founded from within the FIT, or even from within the FIT Europe.

We joined Eulita upon its establishment, in the hope of changing things through dialogue. Our words fell on deaf ears. Worse still: Eulita has been an obstacle to the work that our association has been doing for sworn translators in Belgium. Apart from this, the CBTI-BKVT is of the opinion that to date Eulita has done nothing to help our association and its members to work and live in better conditions.

Moreover, as members, we were not consulted, let alone informed by the Board of Eulita about the fact that an agreement was going to be signed with the FIT Europe.

As such, we no longer see any reason for us to maintain our Eulita membership.

We are therefore asking Eulita's Board to formally cancel our membership and to delete the name of our association from the list of members published on your website.

Yours sincerely,

Ludovic Pierard
CBTI-BKVT President
