Interpreters, get out of your booths!

Interpreters, get out of your booths!

Dear colleagues,

After such a long period of communicating mainly by virtual means, we are finally able to resume something of a normal life. Hopefully, this also means a return to in person jobs as well. We don’t know about you, but we are very eager to meet you all in real life again, after so many Zoom calls and webinars. That’s why we’re grabbing the bull by the horns and are organising a get-together on 8 October, in Brussels.

The idea is to have an open discussion about the last few months and the future of our profession. Since Covid-19 irrupted in our lives, a lot of work has been done in order to prepare a qualitative leap forward in the working conditions for interpreters. Experts from the ACV-CSC as well as interpreters who’ve been involved in relevant commissions and working groups at both the Belgian Chamber and FIU will present you with an update on several of these efforts. With your input, we want to look for constructive ways forward and discuss the next steps needed to make sure our profession can thrive in the years to come.

This is the afternoon’s programme:

Everybody’s free to join us from 2 PM. Between 3 and 5 PM we’ll have presentations and an informal discussion with the following agenda. The afternoon will end with an informal drink.

  • Self-employed vs employee: what are some of the common misconceptions
  • Collective bargaining for the self-employed: the way forward under EU law
  • Presentation of the CBTI/FIU Charter
  • Reception kindly offered by ACV-CSC

Everybody’s free to join us at any time between 2 PM and 7 PM. So, even if you’re working, you might have a spare moment to pop in and be part of the action!

The place to be: ACV-CSC, Rue Pletinckx 19, Brussels – not even a 15-minute walk from Brussels Central Station, or you can park your car at one of the car parks nearby (e.g. Albertina or Grand Place).

We look forward to meeting you all there!
