Conference “The profile of a translator at the European Parliament”

Conference “The profile of a translator at the European Parliament”

INVITATION:

EU Open Doors

The fact that it practises full multilingualism makes the European Parliament a globally unique institution.

On Saturday 17 May 2014 the European Parliament in Brussels will open its doors to anyone wishing to gain a deeper insight into the institution and its activities.

After the very successful first conference held on the occasion of the Open Doors Day in 2012, the Directorate-General for Translation would again like to invite students and faculty from your university to a conference, this year focusing on “The profile of a translator at the European Parliament”.

Programme

Translators from the European Parliament will give presentations on a range of topics including multilingualism, the IT tools they use in their daily work, specialisation, challenges, and the expectations we have of translators. Students will also be given detailed practical information about translation traineeships, career opportunities and selection procedures. The presentations will last for about 2 hours (starting at 10:30) and will be followed by a question-and-answer session. Interpretation will be available from and into English, French, Dutch and German.

Registration

We would kindly ask you to send us the names of those wishing to attend the conference, by email to peter.verdnik@europarl.europa.eu, no later than 18 April 2014. Please note that the number of places is limited.

We will send you a detailed programme, together with full information and instructions, at least three weeks before the event.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
